twenty.thirteen.

Well, I am just a tad late in wishing everyone a happy 2013! I just returned from a lovely (and relaxing) trip to Turks and Caicos. This year is already off to a wonderful start, and I have a good feeling it's going to be one of the best yet. I love the sense of optimism and ambition that the New Year brings. 2013 already has a lot going for it with weddings, making changes in my professional life and new memories with friends (both old and new).

I am not usually the type to make resolutions since I have a hard time sticking to them for a whole year. However, I stumbled across these three resolutions from Emily at Cupcakes and Cashmere and thought they were the perfect goals for 2013. Plus what a great idea to frame your resolutions to keep in your home as a reminder of the things you hope to accomplish in the New Year.

Great Read: How to Find Joy that Lasts

Hope you are all this Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and a great read! I stumbled upon this fascinating article, "How to Find Joy that Lasts," that outlines the differences between happiness and excitement. The topic of happiness has been on my mind lately as I am also wrapping up the book, "The Happiness Project," by Gretchen Rubin. Wishing you all a happy, relaxing Sunday!

How to Be More Interesting (In 10 Simple Steps)

I loved this article from Forbes, which features 10 ways to be more interesting. I wanted to share the simple steps with all of you! Enjoy :)

1.Go exploring.
Explore ideas, places, and opinions. The inside of the echo chamber is where are all the boring people hang out.

2. Share what you discover.
And be generous when you do. Not everybody went exploring with you. Let them live vicariously through your adventures.

3. Do something. Anything.
Dance. Talk. Build. Network. Play. Help. Create. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re doing it. Sitting around and complaining is not an acceptable form of ‘something,’ in case you were wondering.

4. Embrace your innate weirdness.
No one is normal. Everyone has quirks and insights unique to themselves. Don’t hide these things—they are what make you interesting.

5. Have a cause.
If you don’t give a damn about anything, no one will give a damn about you.

6. Minimize the swagger.
Egos get in the way of ideas. If your arrogance is more obvious than your expertise, you are someone other people avoid.

7. Give it a shot.
Try it out. Play around with a new idea. Do something strange. If you never leave your comfort zone, you won’t grow.

8. Hop off the bandwagon.
If everyone else is doing it, you’re already late to the party. Do your own thing, and others will hop onto the spiffy wagon you built yourself. Besides, it’s more fun to drive than it is to get pulled around.

9. Grow a pair.
Bravery is needed to have contrary opinions and to take unexpected paths. If you’re not courageous, you’re going to be hanging around the water cooler, talking about the guy who actually is.

10. Ignore the scolds.
Boring is safe, and you will be told to behave yourself. The scolds could have, would have, should have. But they didn’t. And they resent you for your adventures.

11 Things I Learned in 2011

Happy 1st of the Year! As we move into 2012, I wanted to share some of the important things I learned this past year. The New Year is a time of reflection, hope and ambition. We all want to transform our lives, in small or large ways, to be the best we can be. Before I can focus on my New Year resolutions, I like to reflect on this previous year and recognize how I’ve grown and what I’ve accomplished.

11 Things I learned in 2011

1. You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.
2. You may never figure out what your “major” is in college.
3. Do what you love.
4. Friendships take work.
5. The importance of capturing memories…take lots of pictures!
6. Never stop learning. Absorb everything in the world around you.
7. Be kind to everyone.
8. Never get rid of your childish enthusiasm.
9. Don’t get stuck in your routine- try something new.
10. Just begin.
11. You can’t control everything, so don’t stress over small details.

I will also be posting my resolutions for the New Year shortly! What are you hoping to accomplish in 2012?

Life's Natural Highs

I love this list of life's natural highs.

Although there are a couple of things I would add to my list:
- Completing your "to do" list...then spending the evening doing nothing on the couch!
- Watching home movies
- Finishing a great book
- Catching up with an old friend and realizing that nothing's changed
- The aroma of a freshly brewed pot of coffee
- Witnessing acts of kindness from a stranger
- Accomplishing a goal or dream
- Family :)

What would you add to your list of Life's Natural Highs?
